About the
Founders
LEANNE HINES-SMITH: Founder of Ignition Athletics Inc. 2012 and first member
Leanne was born into a family steeped in athletics, with her late grandfather, Fergus Speakman being hailed the most successful coach of professional athletes of his era. A memorial trophy in Fergie’s honour is awarded each year to the winner of the prestigious Stawell Gift.
Leanne is a Level 4 accredited coach and has been an administrator and senior teacher with Education Queensland.
Leanne has been involved in coaching and administration within the sport for over 35 years. Leanne has been recognised for her service to School Sport as a coach at Regional, State and National level. Leanne is a current Board Member of Queensland Athletics. For the past 9 years, Leanne has been appointed to management roles by Athletics Australia, supporting International teams competing at National Olympic Youth Festivals, World Junior and World University Championships. At the inaugural meeting of Ignition Athletics, the committee presented Leanne with a Life Membership.

GLYNIS NUNN-CEARNS: Founder of Ignition Athletics Inc. 2012
Glynis Nunn-Cearns’ long and distinguished sporting career spans more than 30 years as an athlete, coach and administrator.
After her dual heptathlon gold medals at the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games and 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Glynis was granted the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to athletics. She is a current Board Member of GOLDOC 2018.
Glynis serves as Executive Director of the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association, and works as an administrator with the Gold Coast Academy of Sport. Glynis was the national youth development coordinator for Athletics Australia and managed a number of youth and junior Australian teams overseas and was also a national selector for eight years.
A qualified secondary Phys Ed/English teacher and Level 5 coach, Glynis has trained athletes for World Youth & World Junior Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympic Games. Glynis received a Life Membership to Ignition at its inaugural meeting.
